Nick & Cara: A Water Session at Smith Mountain Lake | Virginia Photographer

Smith Mountain Lake | Virginia Photographer | Water Session | Adventure Photographer

Cara & Nick…

From the moment Cara reached out, I knew their couple’s session at Smith Mountain Lake was going to be one I would never forget. She had such an adventurous vision and an unconditional love for her boyfriend Nick to capture their relationship. Little did I know, Nick had the exact same love for her! Want to know how I know? Because our session wasn’t in the summer… no no no. This adventure photographer and couple jumped into Smith Mountain Lake WILLINGLY at the end of OCTOBER! That’s right, days before Halloween and just months before Christmas, we were waist deep for our water session and had zero regrets!

To give you a little more info, Cara is a Virginia photographer herself and had an adventurous vision for their couple’s session from the start. We tampered with all sorts of locations until we landed on Smith Mountain Lake. Starting on the dock at Mariner’s Landing, the gorgeous view of the Blue Ridge Mountains behind them almost stole the show. However, if you’ve ever met Nick, you know he’s quick to make every situation a good time! We quickly made our way from nervousness into giggling, laughing and having a genuinely good time!

Slow kisses are some of my favorite things to instruct couples to do but this water session at Smith Mountain Lake in particular gives me all the feels. From dipping our toes in the water to fully submerging ourselves for some epic shots, this sweet couple made this Virginia Photographer’s goals COME TO LIFE! They were up for all the snuggles, laughter and ideas that our candid water session brought to the table! Still in her skirt, submerged in water, makeup running down her face and her hair completely soaked, I couldn’t help but ask to keep taking pictures! It was such a magical moment to witness their relationship in raw form under a vibrant cotton candy sky. As the sun disappeared, we made our way back to the car where we continued to talk about their relationship and the thought I’m sure you’re asking came to mind… “WHEN are these two going to get engaged”. Well, no sooner than I thought it, Cara got in the car and Nick pulled me aside for a quick second to let me know he was planning on proposing soon and very soon!

Fast forward a couple of weeks (I think, I was just too excited that time ran away from me), Nick popped the question and SHE SAID YES! They plan to get married October 2020 and while I’m already booked for the date those chose, I cannot wait to see how beautiful their wedding day will be! Congratulations Cara & Nick!
